We're excited that the artists' postcards by Faisal Abdu-Allah, Marcus Coates, Hamish Fulton, Alberto Garutti, Johnny Golding, Mayer and Newton Harrison, Bruce McLean, Jem Southam, Dana Sherwood, Rachel Sussman and Finlay Taylor - commissioned for millimetre02 show: Hello Earth - will now be on display at the British Museum as part of group show The world exists to be put on a postcard: Artists’ postcards from 1960 to now, curated by Jeremy Cooper.
The world exists to be put on a postcard - the first major museum display of artists’ postcards - explores both the politics and playfulness of a unique collection of 300 postcards recently gifted to the British Museum by the artists’ postcard expert Jeremy Cooper - ranging from feminist artists such as Lynda Benglis and Hannah Wilke, to Yoko Ono and John Lennon’s anti-Vietnam War is Over postcard and the original invitation to Andy Warhol’s Holy Cow! Silver Clouds!! Holy Cow! exhibition.
To coincide with the exhibition, Jeremy Cooper has also published a book titled 'The world exists to be put on a postcard: Artists’ postcards from 1960 to now', which demonstrates the significance of artists’ postcards in contemporary art.
A folio of all of the millimetre02 artists' postcards is available to buy on our online shop here.
