Barbara Spence

Jewellery

Studio 39

Barbara Spence’s geometric and stackable jewellery incorporates precious metals, colourful gemstones and bright perspex in lively and unexpected combinations.

Barbara works principally in silver. She uses traditional techniques to create elegant, original, contemporary pieces with subtle references to mid-century shapes and form. Her influences are varied but geometry, colour and contrast play an important part in her creative process; squares juxtaposed with circles, gold with silver, burnished against matt, harmonising and clashing colours.

Her distinctive square stacking rings exemplify Barbara’s aesthetic. Each ring can be worn as a stand-alone piece but they come into their own when worn in sets, creating exciting combinations of precious metals, beautiful gemstones and brightly coloured acrylics.

Barbara works with clients to create their own unique stack which can be worn in a variety of ways and built up over years. With the Perspex collection, conceived to complement her existing work she has reworked her signature pieces in vibrantly coloured acrylics as well as adding new designs. The bold colours add a joyful new dimension to Barbara's work.
