Hotel de Dream takes its name from Emma Tennant’s 1976 magic realist novel, in which the dreams of the residents of the Westringham Hotel seep out from the minds of their dreamers and merge with each other and with the outside world. Magical transformation, metamorphosis, and a blurring between reality and fantasy permeate the air. With story-telling as the connecting thread, this exhibition brings together four painters who - through vivid symbolism and fable-like narratives - conjure mysterious and enigmatic worlds that shift, churn, weave, and entrance.
