Test Bed in

Collaboration with Camden Arts Centre

 

Since 2011 Kingsgate Workshops Trust has been working in partnership with Camden Arts Centre in the delivery of Test-Bed. Test-Bed is a yearly project which provides Camden Art Centres Volunteer Front of House Assistants the opportunity to develop their careers through first-hand experience of devising, co-ordinating and installing an exhibition and public programme at Kingsgate Gallery.

 

Kingsgate Workshops Trust and Camden Arts Centre run a series of Artist Professional Development workshops and opportunities in preparation for each show, housed at the Kingsgate Education Building. Working in collaboration with Camden Arts Centre, Test-Bed seeks to develop and nurture young artists, arts educators and arts administrators of the future.

Talking Performance, 2014

Talking Performance is a round table panel discussion conducted with a selection of emerging contemporary artists who use performance as the basis of their practice. 

 

Performance is an integral part of modern art disciplines from painting and sculpture to live art and theatre, but what does it mean to be a performance artist? Here we will discuss the history and mechanics of this relatively new art form and its place within contemporary culture exploring disciplines ranging from slapstick to body art to happenings and durational works.

Camden Arts Centre front of house volunteers family workshops Drawbot, 2013

 

Camden Arts Centre front of house volunteers family workshops included; Squirmish at the Oasis, Drawbot and, En Plein Drawing. Squirmish at the Oasis is a night of live investigations into the agency and affect of performing noise in a gallery context. Drawbot a workshop which explores how to create art using scientific knowledge.  En Plein Drawing a workshop; inviting young participants to Kilburn Grange Park to connect with their environment, through drawing and writing.

Kingsgate Primary School, 2012

 

As part of The Big Draw 2012 - Campaign for Drawing Kingsgate Primary School, working with Kingsgate Workshops Trust explores the concept of home through drawing and den making. Kingsgate Primary students used paint, felt tips and long rolls of paper creating Art Den's in large and small groups, drawing from their ideas of home.

Shut Up and Keep Talking presented, a talk by Mark Pilkington

 

Kingsgate Gallery 2012

 

Kingsgate Gallery and Kingsgate Emerging Artist Inez de Coo in collaboration with Shut Up and Keep Talking presented, a talk by Mark Pilkington, writer, publisher, curator and musician with particular interest in the fringes of knowledge, culture and belief.

 

Mark Pilkington is the author of Mirage Men (2010) and Far Out: 101 Strange Tales from Science's Outer Edge (2007). The latter collects the Far Out science articles Pilkington wrote for The Guardian, newspaper between 2003 and 2005. 

 

As part of the Kingsgate Emerging Artist residency and at Kingsgate Gallery, Mark Pilkington talked about 'The Abuses of Enchantment', discussing the exploitation and manipulations of folkloric and superstitious beliefs in psychological warfare.

Kilburn Grange Treasure Hunt - Run by Evy Jokhova, 2012

 

As part of The Big Draw 2012 - Campaign for Drawing Kingsgate Workshops Trust will be running Kilburn Grange Treasure Hunt.

 

This half-day Kingsgate school workshop looked at processes of map making, map reading and how maps can be used to find treasure. Following an introduction and historical overview to the art of constructing maps, the class where split into groups. Each group was given an artefact, a large sheet of grid paper and explorer kits including; tape measure, ruler, protractor and sundial all made from paper. 

Kingsgate Mini Olympics Procession / Games and Kilburn Festival Opening Ceremony 2012

 

Pupils at Kingsgate Primary School took part in Kingsgate Mini Olympics, an arts project developed with Kingsgate Workshops Trust. Artists worked with pupils to create Olympic banners and torches for a procession / games and opening ceremony for the Kilburn Festival.
