commissioning art and craftwork from Kingsgate Workshops .

At Kingsgate, most artists and craftspeople will produce work to commission. You may have a particular idea to translate, or may want the artist/craftsperson to work imaginatively within a general brief. Either way, by discussing your needs, you can have a personal involvement with the creative process.

The advantages of commissioning work include
- the satisfaction of seeing work through from design to delivery
- your requirements can be met exactly
- with no agent or middleman there's better value for money
- you gain a greater understanding and appreciation of art and craft through working relationships
- a lasting pleasure with the finished product because of your involvement with the whole process

How to commission work
Arrange a meeting with the artist or craftperson to discuss your requirements. This can be done direct - there are contact details on our artists page, many of which have links to the artists or craftspeoples own websites. Alternatively, the Kingsgate Workshops Office will be pleased to pass on details.
With the help and advice of the artist / craftsperson, arrive at a written specification of what you want. it is important to get a realistic idea of costs, including a possible design fee, early in the discussions. Before work commences, price, payment arangements and delivery dates (where possible) should be agreed in writing.

The exchange of ideas and agreement between both parties is central to successful commissioning. With both sides clear about what is wanted and what is feasible the process can be mutually stimulating and rewarding.
