Jane Ackroyd specialises in both abstract and figurative steel sculpture. Born in London she received a B.A 1st Class Honours degree from St Martin’s School of Art in 1979. She then went on to do her MA at the Royal College of Art (1980-83) where she won the Special Melchett Award for work in steel, the Fulham Pottery Award, and also a travel scholarship to Carrara, Italy.

Since then, she has had a successful career with numerous public and private commissions. Her sculptures can be found in collections in the US, France, Switzerland, Italy as well as the UK. Her work in collaboration with Levitt Bernstein Architects on the redevelopment of The Old Royal Free Hospital in Islington in 1993 was subsequently awarded the Europa Nostra Prize. In 1995 she received an award from the prestigious Jackson Pollock-Lee Krasner Foundation in New York for her work to date.

Her ‘Wildebeest’, which stood for five years in the Temple Quay development in Bristol, has recently gone on display at the Cass Sculpture Foundation Park at Goodwood in Sussex. while her large wall piece ‘Moonlight Ramble’ can be seen in London’s Haymarket, along with ‘Herring Gull’ in Limehouse just a few miles away.
