Introduction
The KWT building supports a wide range of arts and crafts in studio spaces of variable sizes. As of Janaury 2008 studio spaces are levied at a rate of £112.20 per square metre per year. We also provide on-site arts projects in our bespoke Education Centre and serve the local community through a range of out reach projects. Kingsgate is also fortunate to have its own Gallery and we select a range of up to 12 exhibitions each year to show in the space. Our aim is to profile a diverse range of local, national and international artists through our Gallery Programme and we are particularly committed to showing the work of new graduates and emerging artists.
The essential mix of disciplines makes the building a very successful enterprise, with inter-disciplinary collaborations and exchanges of skills.

How to Apply for a Studio
Studios at Kingsgate Workshops are occupied by artists and artisans working in a wide range of disciplines. We have a policy of selecting people by committee from our waiting lists whenever a studio space becomes vacant (which is not very often). We try to keep a wide variety of disciplines within the workshops and therefore select on the basis of the kind of work you do, and not on a first-come-first-served basis. If you would like to be considered for the waiting list, then please download the form from this page. Applications are held on file according to size requirements and discipline and when a studio becomes available all applicants for whom the available space is appropriate will be invited to view the studio. From those interested, the Management Committee and staff will shortlist 3-5 applicants who will then be invited to interview. The successful applicant will be offered a permanent licence at Kingsgate.

Occasionally, studios become vacant for temporary lets - please indicates on your application form if these would be of interest to you.
You can now access the Studio Application Form online.

The Board is made up of individuals whose professional expertise in specific areas enables Kingsgate Workshops Trust to operate efficiently and who will help the organisation develop its full potential whilst supporting and guiding the small staff team. The Board includes four Licensee Trustees who are selected from current studio holders. The Trustees meet quarterly including an AGM held once a year.
The Board of Trustees are all volunteers who meet four times a year to ensure the overall management of the Trust. They contribute a variety of skills and experiences and enable the Trust to grow and develop by careful and prudent planning:

Management Committee
The Management Committee is made up of licensees and contributes to the day-to-day running of the building. Members of the MC also form sub-groups to look through studio applications and interview potential new licensees. This enables them to inform the Trustees of any concerns or suggestions for improvements from the studio holders. The Management Committee meets together every six weeks where licensees are welcome to table any issue they wish to have discussed.

Accessibility Statemente
Accessibility Statement for Kingsgate Workshops.
The new Education Block (coloured green on the plan)
is fully wheelchair accessible, with level access from the street. It includes an accessible toilet.
The rest of the Kingsgate Workshops building is a Victorian warehouse building, with numerous changes of level and many staircases. The main flights of stairs all have substantial handrails.
Access for wheelchair users is unfortunately severely restricted:
- Gallery Upper level (coloured orange on the plan) is accessible from the street - there is a threshold ramp of about 3".
- Gallery Lower level (coloured blue on the plan) can be accessed from entry through the double doors at the end of the building, along the ground-floor corridor, through the rear door to the Gallery. There is a raised threshold strip of about 5". This access may not be available for all exhibitions - please phone or e-mail us and we will be happy to confirm arrangements.
- For Open Studios events only, ground floor studios and the office (coloured purple on the plan) can be accessed as for Gallery Lower level. Studios 1, 7, 10, are level access; all others have a single step of approximately 5". The Emerging Artists studios (coloured yellow on the plan) - Studio 17 - can be accessed from the Yard gate. There is a step up of about 4", and a single step within the studio of about 4".
